The Sand Museum is Japan’s only museum exhibiting sculptures made entirely of sand and offers a truly unique experience. Every year, world-class sand sculptors from all around the world are invited to carve artworks from the Tottori sand, in a special themed exhibit. The sculptures inevitably crumble away, offering the viewer a truly fleeting experience of this incredible, transitory art form.
The famous Tottori Dunes are considered one of the most beautiful areas of the coast along the Sea of Japan. These naturally formed enormous sand dunes span 16 km from east to west and 2 km from north to south. It is one example of mountain recess geography.
